Creating a top five list of the world’s most beautiful beaches is naturally a very personal choice, since everyone has different ideas about what makes a beach truly special.
I decided not to focus on the most predictable choices, such as Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman or the beaches of the Bahamas. Instead, this selection highlights beaches that offer something distinctive beyond simply having white sand or crystal-clear water.
1. Nanuya Lai Lai, Fiji
I came across this stunning beach during a wonderful three-day cruise with Blue Lagoon Cruises. The company had purchased a 58-acre plantation on this beautiful island in the Yasawas, adding a unique element to the overall cruising experience.
2. Saona, Dominican Republic
Saona earns its place for all the classic reasons: beautiful white sand and striking turquoise water. Combined with the warmth and hospitality of the Dominican people, the destination certainly deserves a place on the list.
3. Bethany Beach, Delaware, USA
What I especially enjoy about Bethany Beach is its relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. It is a wonderful place for long walks, while the town itself has a pleasant and welcoming character that adds to the experience.
4. Byron Bay, Australia
Australia is home to countless beautiful beaches, including those around the Whitsunday Islands and Airlie Beach. However, Byron Bay has a special quality of its own. The surfers out on the water, the lighthouse, and the friendly local atmosphere all contribute to the charm of the area and make it worthy of a place on this list.
5. Costa de la Luz, Spain
La Barossa Beach on Spain’s Costa de la Luz is a beautiful stretch of coastline in Chiclana and is regarded as one of the finest beaches along the coast of Cádiz. I can easily understand why, as the beach is broad, peaceful, and wonderfully quiet, making it ideal for taking long walks beside the sea.
I have visited many other beaches that could easily deserve a place among the world’s most beautiful beaches. However, these five stand out because each offers something different from the typical picture of a beautiful beach.
